40-50's. Joey Nelson likes to think of himself as a laid-back surfer, but according to his tax returns, he’s an English teacher. Heading up homeroom for our Valley High frosh, his chill persona is often at war with the responsibilities of his job, as he struggles to be both mentor and authority figure. Lines are blurred even further when Mr. Nelson reconnects with his high school sweetheart—Olivia’s mom, Stephanie. Jilted on a long-ago prom night, Mr. Nelson has never fully gotten over Stephanie. Now he’ll have to choose between winning her back and keeping the peace in his classroom. RECURRING.
