About the Job
Male, 70s, White, rural southern Walter is practical, direct, and a little more reactive than Earnest. He thinks he’s right most of the time – and doesn’t mind saying so – but he’s not cruel. He’s lived-in, weathered, a veteran (there’s a Vietnam Vet sticker on the truck). He’s someone who believes in routine and resists change, even when he’s curious about it. His temper is subtle – a tightening of the jaw, a grip on the steering wheel. Like Earnest, his affection comes sideways. Their relationship should feel decades deep. Actor must be comfortable handling a pickup truck and moving through uneven terrain.
