lowercase is a hybrid documentary–narrative feature that follows acclaimed poet jaye simpson’s odyssey through the tribulations of their childhood in the Canadian foster care system. Through the act of writing an unflinching memoir, Jaye embarks on a journey of self-healing while confronting the colonial structures that shaped their past. From acclaimed director Hayley Morin and Grammy and Juno-nominated producers Jeff Lee Petry and Nathan Drillot, lowercase blends documentary realism with cinematic narrative, bringing to life formative memories that exist between recollection and imagination. We are seeking performers to portray characters from jaye’s childhood and adolescence. These roles will involve naturalistic performances grounded in emotional truth. Prior acting experience is welcome but not required. This is a sensitive, character-driven project that explores identity, resilience, memory, and survival within the Canadian foster care system.
