About the Job

Yasmine is a Hospice Nurse. She has seen a lot of darkness and somehow discovered how to hold on to light. She speaks like someone who has learned to comfort the dying but has never fully learned how to comfort herself. Yasmine intended to do Pediatrics but became a Hospice Nurse because it was the only job available and she needed money. She has grown unexpectedly attached to the work: Witnessing death taught her gratitude and clarity as she learned people’s final regrets. After a decade at her job, the emotional toll is accumulating as Yasmine has been filming patients (with permission) for years, documenting their last moments. Yasmine has watched hundreds of people die. She has absorbed every piece of final advice, trauma, laughter, rage, and regret. She feels close to burnout, due to trouble sleeping, guilt when she takes time off from work and someone has died and sadness from all the memories of people she has taken care of.
