The Black Man In A Pop World (new media version)

Short Film SAG-AFTRA, New Media
Los Angeles
Synopsis:

****READ ENTIRE PROJECT BEFORE SUBMITTING AND MENTION THAT YOU READ IT OR YOU MAY NOT RECEIVE A REVIEW. READING IS ESSENTIAL HERE CONSIDERING THE HEIGHTS WE ARE SHOOTING FOR*** History has shown that the biggest nominations and awards have been given to African American actors who portrayed a historical black figure: Denzel - Malcom X Jamie Foxx - Ray Charles Marshala Ali – Don Shirley Jennifer Hudson -Florence Ballard Supremes Diana Ross – Billie Holiday Lupita Nyong'o – Historical Slave Character Of course there have been exceptions to the rules and that is the focus of this project: The Exception Vision: The goal is to work with an actor who has their eyes on the highest prizes in Hollywood by way of true acting and storytelling. With so much content and actors being a disposal/replaceable entity in Hollywood unlike ever before, creators rarely focus on shaping talent through their skills/gifts. If you read old school Hollywood biographies, stars were made by way of vision. A lot of these visions there was a muse in the picture. There is a whole 1999 Albert Brooks film that is based off of a writer and his muse. I myself have experienced the power of a muse 3 times (they didn't stand the test of time) and let me tell you ladies in gentleman, a muse is the best weapon one can have when trying to build a dominating trail in Hollywood. The inspiration that a muse gives a creator can not be explained in a simple set of words. The vision here is to craft a series of POP projects not ABOUT the black man but STARRING a black man. These are story lines of a human moving through the obstacles of life who just happens to be African American. Visionary Background: Next year will mark 30 years when I was a snot nosed kid who walked into the biggest and most lavish theater I could find in LA. My goal was to create a different kind of show and expose talent to Hollywood in my own unique way. The idea was to give opportunity to those that may not have had a chance. I wanted a theater that had all the bells and whistles to create a mega experience (Professional Lights, Huge Curtain, Orchestra Pits, Film Screen, Huge Props, Star Dressing Rooms, professional lights and sounds etc). I had no idea what I was doing from a technical stand pointI was just a 'baby' but I just knew I wanted to write, direct and entertain. For the next 29 years, I held court for thousands upon thousands of audiences, worked with 100s of actors (some now A-list), auditioned over 300 thousand talents, directed several future stars in film and stage while hosting huge entities such as Warner Brothers (Netflix now boo -shh), Sony, Universal, BET, TV ONE and so many more. Actors were handpicked by those entities who attended the events. Its been an incredible ride. As 2026 approaches, my goal is to release a multitude of unprecedented projects to celebrate. Casting and finding the right actor for every project can be challenging. What would it be like if I had one future superstar actor and was able cast actors around him for a number of projects? Hopefully this is the system of projects where I find out. View: With Netflix acquiring Warner Brothers which include HBO MAX, the focus on streaming stories will be at an all time high. I feel I was born for streaming stories. I love continuing plot lines with cliffhangers that change the whole trajectory of the plot. I was once named by a Hollywood Magazine as the King of Twists (theater). So this emergence of streaming is in my playing field.

Project Notes

Here is a snippet from a recent alumni interview: A: What has been the biggest challenges in your journey? R: Finding the perfect, personal actor to interpret my BIGGEST vision. Also I think if my journey had a name over the last few years, it would be 'Misunderstood'. A: Why is that? R: I think we live in an era of instant success. Social media has really been the downfall of true, studied talent. People come to LA for success and they want it instantly. No training, just instant success. Then they don't put in the effort. They take pictures of themselves with popular actors so it can look like they are 'doing something' to their friends back home. They come to LA and get 3 jobs just to survive. They spend more time 'hanging' out with their friends than working on their craft. Actors for some reason don't see that there are 1000s upon thousands of actors here at the same time looking for fame. Every year, thousands more age into the pursuit. I know there has to more people outside of Johnny Depp/Tim Burton and Ryan Coogler/Michael Jordan that are TRULY focused. I refuse to believe that Ryan and Tim Burton found the only two drama free, hungry actors that exist on this planet. I want to find one so I can join those two powerhouses. This forthcoming year I am making an elevated effort. Its too many people wit attitude in this industry. I am, 100 percent attitude and drama free. A: You say 'Misunderstood'. Can you go deeper with that? R: There are many examples. Even in something as simple as the casting process. I do a number of postings but I have had messages sent to me questioning whether I am real or not. Now let me explain to your students my process and tell me if it seems impossible. Here is an example. I wake up on Saturday morning at 4am. Grab my coffee and for the next five hours, I write three short films. The most difficult part of that for me is proofreading. After I finish the script, I hate going back to correct cause its tedious, but I have to do it. Then I relax for an hour. At ten o'clock AM I set off to write three more scripts. At 3:00 pm I have 6 short film scripts complete. Next step is I call my DP and send the scripts to him for his perspective on the shots. If its a new DP, I schedule a meeting in Hollywood at a restaurant so we can talk face to face. Monday I will put up the casting notice and hire the rest of the crew. Then within 2 weeks I should be filming. If its a dual project I do the negotiations in between time to secure a theater. As far as time, I clear my schedule from March to November (2026 it will be earlier) which means I have every day to create. So whats difficult about that? The people who question it don't understand passion. They have come out to LA and cannot devote a lot of time to their career so they can't fathom the fact that there are those that can. Instead of asking questions, they assume and talk about you. Its odd, but I get that thrown at me a lot. Its part of the journey
