Survivor Stories: Voices Against Violence
As part of our Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Youth Violence Prevention and Survivor Support Initiative, Illinois Youth and Family Services is proud to launch a weekly podcast dedicated to elevating the voices of youth and young adult survivors of violence. This platform is designed to bring awareness to the real-life experiences of survivors of dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, and exploitation, as well as youth who have experienced homelessness or runaway situations. Each week, listeners will hear courageous stories of survival, healing, and hope. Our mission is to spark meaningful conversations that help break the silence surrounding these issues and educate families, service providers, and community leaders on how to better support young survivors. In addition to survivor stories, the podcast will feature advocates, service providers, and experts in youth safety, justice, and trauma-informed care. We are currently seeking weekly guests to share their insight and experiences, including: Youth and young adult survivors of dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, or exploitation who are open to sharing their story of resilience and recovery. Former runaway or homeless youth who have navigated trauma, services, and pathways to stability. Parents or caregivers of youth survivors who can speak to the experience of supporting a loved one through crisis and healing. Victim advocates, counselors, outreach workers, and case managers who provide direct services to youth impacted by violence. Professionals in law enforcement, healthcare, or the legal system who offer insight on improving community response to youth victimization. Survivors turned advocates who now work to prevent violence and support others through their lived experience. All episodes are recorded in a trauma-informed, supportive environment, with options for confidentiality if desired. Our team is committed to ensuring that guests feel safe, heard, and respected throughout the process.
