Los Angeles, 2050. Artificial intelligence has largely replaced human labor, dividing the city into rigid economic zones — sterile luxury above, and decaying self-reliance below. In a wooden shack on the edge of Zone Five, technician Dylan Parker repairs power lines with his partner Tom, while his aging father Bill clings to the remnants of ordinary life. Tom introduces Dylan to NEVO, a government-sponsored virtual-reality world where players mine a digital mineral called Kryptonite for real cryptocurrency—and, with enough of it, a ticket to a higher social status. Dylan’s first failure turns to obsession. Against Bill’s warnings, he installs a capsule at home, vanishes into the game, and quits his job, convinced that actual work now exists only online. When black-market “access maps” appear, Dylan and his girlfriend stage a dangerous heist, winning their first fortune. He buys Bill a Genodyne life-extension pill, briefly reconciling father and son — until the gang they robbed strikes back, and the virtual and real battles collide. Just as Dylan rises to success, Next Evolution’s desperate CEO triggers the hidden “Joker Prompt,” erasing every player’s wealth overnight. In ruins again, Dylan nearly gives up — until it gives him back the life-extending pill and reminds him that persistence outlives every system. Dylan swallows the time-pill and powers up NEVO once more, ready to rebuild from the ashes.
