Surgery Patient #1, Female, 60s, Black SCENE: You’re in the hospital recovering from cardiac surgery. You are walking the hallway with your son to speed up your recovery and the nurse that’s been taking care of you walks by. You’ve spent hours chatting with her at this point and know each other pretty well—she’s more like a friend. In fact, you both loved dancing in your younger years and have bonded over that. When she walks by, she does a little dance move as if to say “look at you go!”. You give her a little shimmy back. You move carefully since you’re still recovering, but you’re sending her the message: “yeah, I still got it.”
