About the Job

Chief Deputy Sheriff ("CD") Blake, between 35 and 45, is a special individual. She has somehow advanced to the highest Sheriff's Department rank (below the elected Sheriff) despite being younger than other longer serving deputies and a woman among mostly men - and managed to do so without being resented for it. Beyond that, in this conservative county, she's done so while being essentially asexual and atypically non-binary - atypically, in that she could care less about her gender identity and is fine with 'she, her, hers,' if only to skip the subject. But her most special quality is her exceptional decency - the unpretentious earnestness with which she engages with everyone - that combined with her work ethic and basic competence allow her to fulfill her elevated role with a minimal drama.
