Ali (7) is a precocious seven-year-old beam of light who's learned to read her dad's sadness with uncanny accuracy and has developed an entire arsenal of terrible jokes, drawings, and spontaneous dance parties to lift his spirits during their too-infrequent visits. There's something heartbreaking and hopeful about this kid who already understands that love sometimes means carrying someone else's pain, but refuses to let it dim her own fierce, uncomplicated joy.
