About the Job
Tom is the long-time HR manager at the plant and Jamie’s Uncle, used to wielding power over jobs and payroll. He initially bullies Mark, treating him like a nobody trying to sign in the chairman’s space, and is easily manipulated by Jamie into throwing Mark out of the gala to “protect” Emily’s promotion. When Jennifer arrives and he realizes how badly he’s misread the situation, Tom swings into obsequious mode, terrified of the consequences of crossing the real chairman. He represents mid-level corporate opportunism—quick to curry favor with whoever seems to hold power.
