About the Job
Lead role. over 18 to play younger. 2 days of shooting (Jan 19-20) Not shorter than 5‘8“ or taller than 6‘4“; heavy-set. Able to portray someone of Jewish descent. Casey’s sidekick since the sandbox — chubby, awkward, funny, eager to fit in. He follows Casey’s lead and accepts his decisions, even when he’s uncomfortable with the actions of the five-boy gang they call The 3rd Rail. Josh is the emotional heart of the group, but the weight of his inner conflicts pushes him into drug use during his senior year — a struggle he later has to rehab from. Quiet, perceptive, and smart, he sometimes becomes the group’s reluctant moral anchor. Born into privilege, he carries a quiet guilt about it. He’s drawn to Casey’s energy, even as he senses the danger in it — often taking the brunt of the backlash from those outside their gang. Torn between loyalty and conscience, he’s both pro-tector and enabler — the friend who wants to save a wild Casey but doesn’t know how. • Casey’s loyal friend for life. • Has a lot in common with Ricky — academic, more likable to a wider range of people — but knows Ricky might not always be there for him. • Accepts Babyface and Puz, plays sports and hangs out with them, mostly because Casey has chosen them to be part of The 3rd Rail.
