About the Job

Es is the pulse of Es & Flo: a woman whose life has spanned protest, secrecy, and devotion, bound to her partner Flo by a love forged in resistance and tested by time. Her mind is now slowly beginning to betray her, but her heart refuses to yield. Her past is one of conviction and courage - of speaking out when silence was safer - and yet she has spent much of her life concealing as much as she’s declared. She carries this duality into her later years, fierce in spirit but wary of exposure, fiercely loving yet fearful of being seen too fully. Pride makes her stubborn, humour keeps her grounded, and love - messy, enduring, complicated love - drives her forward. In her relationships she finds both refuge and reflection, learning that strength isn’t only found in defiance but also in the quiet act of letting herself be loved. The role demands immense emotional precision - balancing wit, strength, and vulnerability with the raw tenderness of a woman still fighting to love, to be loved, and to remain herself. Accent: Standard English; Welsh influence desirable (accent work will be supported by an accent and vocal coach) Please note that some scenes feature realistic expressions of affection between partners - including flirting, kissing, and gentle domestic intimacy. The actor should feel comfortable authentically representing a long-term queer relationship with a woman who is at least a decade younger than her. An intimacy coordinator will support rehearsals and performances involving intimacy. This production is committed to authentic representation and will consult with medical specialists and advocacy organisations to ensure Es’s journey with dementia is depicted with integrity and understanding. The successful actor will need to attend a Photo Shoot in Sydney between 16 – 18 November 2025 (Day/Time TBD) If the performer cast in the role of Kasia is under 18, the actor cast as Es will be required to hold a valid NSW Working With Children Check.
