LEAD RUSSIAN or RUSSIAN ACCENT GRIGORI RASPUTIN Tall, broad-shouldered, thin build, with a long wizard beard, long hair and piercing pale eyes (often described as hypnotic) he looks unkempt but is magnetic. A Siberian peasant-mystic turned faith-healer whose calming presence seemed to ease the heir to the Russian throne Alexei Tsarevich’s hemophilia, earning him extraordinary access to Alexandra (wife Tsar Nicholas II). Charismatic, unsettling, gentle one moment and immovably iron-willed the next. Claimed to have the powers of: prayer, healing touch, telegrams, hypnotism, mental influence, commanding devotion, prophecy, psychic reach, and a mystical authority that Alexandra saw as divine protection for the dynasty. Allegedly prophesied that if he were killed by common peasants or outsiders, the Russian monarchy would endure. But if he were killed by nobles of the Tsar’s own blood or circle, then the dynasty would fall (which eventually came to pass). Impossibly resilient and extremely hard to kill. Hopes: to remain God’s instrument and protect the imperial family.
