As a child, Manny is kind, loyal, and hopeful. He is the best friend of Mary. Although Manny does not yet have the emotional intelligence to relate to Mary’s early exposure to trauma, he makes his greatest efforts to show her kindness, sympathy, and tenderness when she struggles.
