About the Job
The Mother is a supporting role. We see her at various points in her life, starting with the birth of her daughter through to when her daughter is 14. Mum is slim and attractive, and she ages well and takes care of her appearance. However, as the years progress we get a definite sense that life isn't turning out as she hoped or expected. She starts off as a happy and attentive mum, but increasingly becomes wrapped up in her own dramas and disappointments - with the result that she fails completely to notice what is happening to her daughter, or to understand her own pivotal role in her daughter's psychological deterioration. In particular, she fails to understand or acknowledge the part she plays in simultaneously concealing inherited family patterns and passing them on to the next generation.
