About the Job
The Girl is the lead character. At age 14, to all outward appearances she's a normal teenager. She has plenty of friends at school, and academically she's doing well. At home, when she's with her family she puts on a facade of being cheerful and helpful. She spends most of her time in her room, but to her parents this seems like normal, teenage-girl behaviour. They don't notice that her inner life is unravelling. They don't notice that increasingly she is taking on the mantle - and the burden - of an unconscious family pattern she cannot understand or articulate. And so it is that, at age 14, she finally succumbs to the power of the doll hidden in her cupboard.
