About the Job
Jonathan suffers from a kind of ontological guilt - a guilt over the very fact that he exists. He therefore tends to assume, by default, that he has screwed up somehow, and this assumption is only reinforced by Woman 1 and her gang. But since no-one will explain why or how he has screwed up, his only real choices are to (a) distract himself with TV or whatever or (b) journey on an ever-descending (and never-ending) spiral of fear, guilt and self-recrimination! In physical appearance, he is bald, skinny and with a permanently anxious demeanour.
This is a role that will require good comic timing, but also the ability to convey real pathos.
